As the world's focus is on the highly damaging coronavirus pandemic, Steve Smith's two-year leadership ban from the scandal ended quietly on Sunday morning.
Smith was stripped of the captaincy and banned from leading Australia for two years over his involvement in the 2018 ball-tampering scandal in South Africa
Australian cricket's ball-tampering scandal erupted on March 24, 2018 — day three of the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town Cameron Bancroft was banned for nine months for using sandpaper on the ball.
David Warner and Steve Smith were banned for 12 months for their part, Smith was replaced by Tim Paine as Test captain and by Aaron Finch as one-day captain.
Tim Paine has lead Australia admirably well in Test arena he will surely keep the role till the time he continues playing international cricket and after that Smith may take over test captaincy and Carey may come as WK.
Smith told a news channel on Sunday that he was focused only on trying to stay physically and mentally fit during the coronavirus shutdown of Australian cricket.
With India in a three-week lockdown in a bid to contain a spread of the virus, Smith admitted the IPL appeared unlikely to go ahead. "I think the country's basically shut its borders until the 15th of April," he said.
"It's obviously not looking likely at the moment, I think there might be some meetings over the next couple of days to discuss what the go is with it all." he added.
All cricket activities in Australia has been cancelled, with the team's three-match T20 series against New Zealand after just one game.
Australia has a scheduled Test tour to Bangladesh in June and a subsequent one-day campaign in England, but both appear to be at risk under the Covid-19 pandemic.
